Equiss Kennels is a small hobby kennel located in beautiful East Tennesee. We started in the conformation ring in 2003 with our first fawn Dane bitches. We started with the Cresteds in 2004 when my daughter decided to start showing and she needed a smaller dog. Our success has been slow but steady and very exciting. When I lost Pie, my first Dane, in 2007 a piece of my heart went with her. Without her the Danes were never the same. Today I only own my original bitch, Rinna who is spayed & retired. I still co-own several Danes with friends but otherwise I am no longer showing them. Now my main breeds are Chinese Cresteds and Whippets. We also have 2 Ibizan Hounds that are nothing but fun and entertaining. We love our goofy Beezers.

Our family consists of me (Cathy), my very tolerant nondog husband (Barron), our 13 yr old son who could care less about the dogs (Justin) and our 11 yr old daughter who is my constant shadow and Jr handler (Sydney). Our dogs are much more then show dogs, they are part of our family. We say kennel but the dogs sleep in the house with us. They have 5 fenced acres to run on anytime  they want and then soft beds inside to come back to and relax. Our dogs are allowed to be dogs anytime they want. We don't believe in keeping them separated just in case they could hurt one another. This is something we are willing to take a chance with because we want them to enjoy life as DOGS not just show dogs.

Why "Equiss" everyone asks? I wanted to do Equus because we are big horse people and the Danes were big as horses but I had seen this name in a few Dane pedigrees and didn't want to step on any toes. I know people work very hard at establishing a name and don't want to take away from that. So we compromised and came up with Equiss. Still pronounced the same, just spelled differently. When we got the Cresteds we continued with the Equiss prefix since they all look like little ponies with their fluffy manes and tails. Again with the Whippets since they were often referred to as the poor man's racehorse.

Please feel free to check out the website and email or call us with any questions. We love to talk about our dogs and are happy to answer as many questions as we can.

Sydney and Pie in 2003. Even at this young age Pie loved to mother other animals. She was our momma dog and matriarch of the group. Sadly we lost Pie to cancer in March 2007.
Barron and me Christmas 2005. One of the few non dog pictures I have. Of course notice that I do have on my mosaic Dane pin. LOL
