| Update January 16, 2006 Well Piper is scarred but healing more and more every day. She now has her cast off and is now just wearing a support type bandage. She got her cast off last week and is feeling great. She is still on restricted exercise until she builds her muscles back up but at least she doesn't have to live in a crate 24 hours a day. Although she took everything in stride she wasn't happy about being confined. Amazingly her attitude has not soured one little bit through the whole thing. Through it all she amazed everyone with her happy go lucky attitude. She was a favorite at the vet clinic because she was such a good patient. Although she has lost all her muscle tone and she was down on her pastern from the extra weight she is still pretty as ever. The pastern is already straightening back up and as long as she eventually quits limping (which the vet said will stop with time) it just may be possible to get her into the ring. The rear leg that was fileted open is scarred but not too noticeable because the laceration was on her inside thigh. From a distance it is very hard to see. We were afraid the whole area would slough from the trauma but it didn't. There isn't a day that goes by that someone says.. I can't believe she survived and looks this good. She is definitely a miracle and we couldn't be happier with her. I had these pictures taken the day before she got her cast off. It was such a beautiful day that I decided to be bad and let her go to the park for some fresh air. Although she only walked to the point where we were taking pictures she was very happy just sitting there watching all the activity. There were ducks, geese and squirrels everywhere and it was quite the show for the dogs. She has never seen so many ducks in her life and the squirrels were crazy enough to run within a few feet of the dogs which made for some great entertainment. Hopefully you will see Piper in the ring in Summer of 2006 and again for the Futurity at the 2006 Nationals in Topeka. We don't care if we win anything.. the joy of being out there will be enough because this has been such a roller coaster ride for us all. We can't Thank our friends who have supported us and prayed for us enough. I would list them all but I am afraid I would leave someone out because there have been so many. We will always remember all the caring people that prayed every day for Piper to recover... suffice it to say our prayers have been answered!! |

| UPDATE APRIL 20, 2006 Piper made her debut into the show ring last weekend at the Perry, GA clusters. She was entered into the 6-9 puppy class and did very well. She didn't do anything as far as winning but she had fun and that is all that matters. She has been sound and it was a miracle she made it to the show at all. She still has a lot of maturing to do and is still a skinny, long and lanky puppy. If you didn't see the scars on her back leg you would never know anything happened to her. Updated pictures coming soon!!! |
