1. After much consideration we have decided that all pet Danes
puppies will not have their ears cropped unless the new owner has had past experience with posting Dane ears. Ears usually have to be taped a minimum of 4-6 months and upwards of 1+ years. Mainly though we found that it was much less stressful on the puppy to have their ears left natural.
Show puppies will be cropped or will be sold natural and owner can have them cropped by approved ear cropper (licensed veterinarians only.. sorry). Equiss Danes uses Dr.Bill Martin for ear cropping. His website is www.earsbydrbill.com to see some of his beautiful work. Ear cropping usually runs around $200-$450. Dr. Martin is in Hendersonville, NC and charges $250 - $300 for his crops.

If owners insist their pets are cropped then the puppy must be paid in full before being cropped and owner will accept all responsibility for puppy. If the puppy dies while being cropped, Equiss Danes will not be responsible for the puppy and any purchase price will NOT be refunded. We highly encourage anyone wanting a pet to leave their ears natural.

2. All puppies are raised in our house with our family. We never use outdoor kennels. Our Danes & Cresteds are first and foremost our family pets with showing coming after that. All puppies are socialized with other dogs and cats. All puppies will be handled daily by all ages of children and will be well adjusted to a family life. All puppies are started on crate training and basic obedience. All puppies are raised in our living room amongst our family. They see and are accustomed to everyday hussle and bussle of family life. Any puppy leaving our home is extremely well socialized and has had daily interaction from day one.

3. All puppies will be checked by a licensed veterinarian before leaving. The puppies will go home with their first 1-2 sets of vaccinations for parvo/distemper. We only give core vaccinations to our puppies. If you want others given such as Lepto or Corona then we must know this in advance. We only give DHPP to our puppies and we don't start vaccinations until 7-8 weeks of age. We then vaccinate every 3 weeks for a total of 3 puppy vaccinations. We don't recommend rabies until after 6 months of age. They will dewormed at 2, 4, 6 weeks with Strongid and then at 8 weeks with Panacur. At 12 weeks all puppies are started on heartworm preventative as well.
4. Pet quality puppies will have a spay/neuter contract stating the puppy must be altered before 12 months for Cresteds and not before 12 months and no later then 24 months for Danes. If the pet is sold without previously being spayed/neutered then the puppy will remain on co-ownership until such time as proof spay/neuter is verfied. Pet quality puppies will always be sold on a limited registration as well. This will still allow the new owner to enjoy all AKC performance events except conformation.
5. Show quality puppies will be sold on a show contract and a co-ownership. Once puppy has finished their AKC championship then it will be signed over to new owner. There will be no breeding contract involved on bitch puppies unless otherwise arranged. Equiss Danes & Cresteds does retain stud rights on all males although will likely rarely use them. 6. All puppies will be registered with the AKC, American Kennel Club, we do not endorse any other registry except CKC, Canadian Kennel Club. You will be supplied with registration papers at time of sale along with a 3 generation pedigree. You will also have copies of all health testing done on the parents.
7. All our puppies are to be sold as pets first! It is more important to us to have your Dane or Crested as a treasured family member then it is to have a title. We encourage everyone to try as many venues with their dogs as you feel comfortable. Training is a great way to bond with your puppy even if you never obtain any titles. Obedience training is a MUST for a Dane puppy and all puppy buyers will be required to do at least a 6 wk Beginner Obedience class or a Puppy Kindergarten class.
8. Pet Puppies vs Show Puppies
Let me clarify pet vs show. I have many inquiries of people wanting a show quality dog for a pet because somehow the misconception is that the show puppy is going to be better. Conformationally yes, there is a reason I will classify them as a pet but it is very highly unlikely that someone that doesn't show will be able to tell the difference between the different puppies. I try to match each puppy by personality first to their new families, after all even if it is to be shown you have to live with it the other 99% of the time.

Same policies apply to Crested puppies as the Dane puppies with co-ownership on all puppies until stipulations are met.
Co-ownerships are kept until the show puppies have finished their championships or the puppy is proven spayed/neutered at which time I will sign off on the registration puppies.
$300 non-refundable deposit will be required once pregnancy is confirmed by ultrasound and/or x-ray or at 3 weeks of age if puppy is already born. If for any reason the puppy isn't available you have put a deposit on (ie; sex or show/pet quality) then the deposit can be refunded or put towards a future litter. This is the only reason the deposit will be refunded.

We as the breeders of the puppies will also do the following. We will be available 24/7 for any and all questions that may come up regarding your puppy. We will be here for the life of the puppy if for any reason at ANY time in its life you are no longer able to keep your puppy then it will be returned to us so we can assure proper placement again. We will be honest and straight forward with any questions and/or concerns that you may have about your puppy. Our puppy buyers are an extention of our Danes & Cresteds and we encourage our buyers to send updates and pictures for the life of the puppy. We will happily supply references from our prior puppy buyers.
