Romeo
Male Solomon Island Eclectus
Hatched April 2003
We decided that we wanted to add a bird to our family. So for Sydney's 9th birthday I decided to surprise her with her own parrot. She had been asking for a parrot for a couple of years and I knew that she better be sure since a bird would be with her for life.
I research several breeds of birds. I knew I wanted something friendly and that the entire family could enjoy. That ruled out most amazons who tend to be one person birds.
That brought me to Cockatoos because of their loving personalities. After talking to some owners though I didn't think Barron would be able to handle all the dander they produce. Not to mention I didn't really want to listen to the screaming that Cockatoo do on a regular basis.

I came across the Eclectus purely by accident on a classified site. I had never considered one because I didn't know anything about them. With more research I learned the male Eclectus was not only friendly but quiet and clean. Romeo has been everything we had hoped for in a bird. We can all pick him up and pet him. Strangers can even come up and pick him up from us. He is actually in the kid's school's yearbook on a day that he went to school with Sydney for pet day.

I would highly recommend an Eclectus to anyone that wanted a sweet, relatively clean bird. Once his cage is covered he doesn't make a peep until the next day when I take off the cover. The entire family loves him, he is a great bird!
