Sebastian Male Blue & Gold Macaw Hatched September 2007 Sebastian is our 2nd bird. We decided that Romeo needed a friend so our search for a 2nd bird started. This time we thought we would go with a bigger bird and started looking at macaws. After doing research and from personal experience I decided on the blue & gold. Again I needed something that could be accepting of all people, ok with strangers and very social. I found a wonderful breeder that took his time to answer lots of questions. Although I have experience working with large birds, its a new ballgame when you are going to live with one for the rest of your life. To make sure he stays friendly and accepting we take him out and about every chance we get. Sometimes he comes with us to the kid's friends house, school, Tractor Supply and anytime we go visit family. Anyone can hold him and pet him because he is so well socialized. He also travels to dog shows with us if we are going to be gone more then a short weekend. Sebastian technically belongs to Justin. However, there is no doubt his favorite people are me and my husband. Barron rarely has much to do with all the animals until Sebastian came along. There isn't a day that he doesn't come home from work and walk straight to the bedroom to say hi to Sebastian. Sebastian will jump off his cage and fly on the bed to get to Barron, something he doesn't do for anyone else.. even me. Sebastian is just one of the family now. I can see him growing old with Justin in the future.
Sebastian the day we got him. He got here before we got his cage so we put him in a large dog crate. We knew he would be big but when he came out of his shipping crate from the airport we were certain we had accidently ordered a Pterodactyl.
Sebastian at the kids school picnic. He was the hit of the picnic and everyone wanted to hold him and have their picture taken. This is great socialization for him and we really encourage him being handled by strangers.
Sebastian after taking a bath. I love this picture of his fluffed up head.
Sebastian hanging outside in his tree. He sits in this dead tree while we are out by the pool. This is a good way for him to sun himself.
